–WHAT IS THE MEANING OF “TRỐNG” (DRUM) ?
The word Trống has two meanings within the Vietnamese language: male (gà trống: rooster, male chicken) and drum. Drums with two closed ends are called “yang” drums, which are also symbols of male gender or a symbol of the sun.
Đông Sơn drums are a special type of drum that have both a closed top, symbolizing yang, and a hollow end, symbolizing yin. These yin-yang drums symbolize sun and space or complementary forms in the universe as a whole.
Đông Sơn bronze drums that have the sun at the center of the tympanum are the typical symbol of the Sun king lineage.
-WHAT IS THE CORE OF THE VIETNAMESE HERITAGE?
The core of the Vietnamese heritage was based on Tiên (Yang) and Rồng (Yin). It is believed that the Vietnamese were descendants of the Mother Tiên (Fairy Mother) who lived in the mountain (symbolized by fire or yang) and the Father Rồng (Dragon Father) who lived in the ocean (symbolized by water or yin). Mythology depicts Tiên as a descendant from the Fire Bird and Rồng as such from the Water Snake. Therefore, it is believed that Vietnamese heritage is based on Yang and Yin, Tiên and Rồng, Fire and Water or more precisely Bird and Snake. The Yang and Yin Đông Sơn drums made by the Vietnamese people during the Hùng Dynasties depict these beliefs.
-WHO ARE THE BAI YUE?
According to legend, the Bách Việt or Bai Yue (one hundred clans of Việt) were born from a GOURD. The Vietnamese people were first to be born, so they had a light complexion. The others clans of Bai Yue were born later, so they had a dark complexion.
This GOURD is a symbol for a Cosmic Egg pouch representing the life creating universe. I call this Gourd the Universe Gourd or Cosmic Gourd.
The Bai Yue who were born from this Cosmic gourd thusly are the Cosmic race.
A dancer of Bai Yue’s Cosmic race. The headdress displays a decoration of a cosmic gourd (Ngọc Lũ I drum).
The Universe is composed of sun and space or yang and yin. Likewise, the Cosmic race to which the Bai Yue belonged also had two branches: Sun (Yang, Bird) branch and Space (Yin, Snake) branch.
WHAT IS THE MEANINGS OF VIỆT AND WHO ARE THE VIETNAMESE?
Literally the word Việt means axe, adze, pointed objects which can be considered as symbol of male or sun.
Thus amongst the Cosmic race, the Vietnamese belonged to the Sun (Yang) branch.
According to legend, the Vietnamese are the descendants of Đế Minh (Emperor of Sunlight) who was a third generation descendant of the Sun God Viêm Đế. Thus the Vietnamese are the descendants of both Sun Light emperor Đế Minh and Sun God Viêm Đế. The Vietnamese are indeed the People of the Sun.
A bird-man of the Bai Yue’s Sun branch, the People of the Sun. The headdress displays a decoration of the head of a sun bird hornbill (Ngọc Lũ I drum).
-WHAT IS THE MEANING OF TỔ HÙNG (legendary HÙNG ANCESTORS) AND HÙNG VƯƠNG (historical HÙNG KINGS).
-Hùng means male (hùng trĩ: male pheasant) or yang. The Sun is yang so Hung means the sun.
– Hùng means strong (hùng mạnh: strong power). The Sun is mighty.
– Hùng means youth (hùng tráng). The Sun symbolizes youth.…
– In Uighur language the old word Hun means Sun (James Churchward, The Children of Mu). The word Hùng is related to the word Hun thus also means Sun.
-Hun also mean One, Creator (James Churchward, The Sacred Symbols of Mu). Sun or Sol is number 1 as in Solo. Sun is Creator.
– Both Hung and Hun related to an old Vietnamese (Mol language) term Cun (leader, chieftain). Cun is a chief, a number one leader of a sun people clans.
All the meanings of the Vietnamese word HÙNG show the relation to the sun. Thus Hùng means the Sun. The HISTORICAL HÙNG KINGS ARE THE SUN KINGS. They were descendants of TỔ HÙNG or the legendary Sun God Hùng Ancestors (Tổ Hùng Viêm Đế).
After over 30 years of studying and researching the Đông Sơn bronze drums, I have discovered that the yin yang Đông Sơn bronze drums were the symbol of the historical Hùng Kings. They were made by Vietnamese people about 3,000 years ago. I have also been able to decipher symbols and features of the Viet People, the People of the Sun who belonged to the sun branch of the Cosmic racet, that were carved on the Đông Sơn.
The following are some examples:
1-On every Đông Sơn bronze Drum, the sun is wrapped in a circle at the center of the tympanum of the drum. This depicts the universe gourd, cosmic gourd or cosmic egg pouch, as stated previously.
Sun wrapped in circle on the tympanum of a Dong Son bronze drum portrayed Mother Tiên Universe (sun-space), an image of Âu Cơ Egg Pouch that gave birth to 100 Lang Hùng Princes.
This image portrays the Mother Tiên Âu Cơ‘s Egg Pouch which gave birth to 100 Lang Princes, progenitors of Hùng Kings as believed to be the Vietnamese heritage.
2-On the Quảng Xương drum, two branches of Hùng Kings were carved:
The Âu Cơ’s Bird branch: People were portrayed as bird-men.
Âu Cơ’s Bird Clan.
and the Lạc Long Quân Snake branch: people were portrayed as Water snake-men .
Lạc Long Quân’s Water Snake Clan.
3-Almost all Đông Sơn bronze drums have the flying herons “Cò Lang” (‘White Heron’, ‘Wind Heron’) which symbolize the wind or air, space.
Cò Lang (White Heron or Wind Heron), bird totem of the Hùng Kings.
They are the totems of the Hùng Kings who were born from the cosmic egg pouch.
I am glad to present some of my discoveries in a nutshell through the presentation titled
THE ĐÔNG SƠN BRONZE DRUMS, SYMBOL OF HÙNG SUN KINGS) today August 14, 2016 at the Cultural Day event.
